August 1, 1948
The late Dr. Jesus C. Delgado, a University of Santo Tomas graduate and a topnotcher of the Medical Board Examination, established the Delgado Maternity Clinic on Kamuning Road, Quezon City. The Clinic offered obstetrical and gynecological services to patients mostly underprivileged and dispossessed. During the early years, the clinic had Dr. Delgado as the Medical Director, and his wife, the late Mrs. Carmen Bayot Delgado, as Administrator and Dietary Supervisor. 1950's - Early 60's
Dr. Jesus C. Delgado transformed the clinic from a four (4) bed into a well - respected and much admired 50 - bed medical facility. The word "Maternity" was taken out and the clinic became simply Delgado Clinic. Dr. Delgado was a pioneer, being one of the first to use the spinal anesthesia for painless deliveries, intravenous use of Pitocin and the use of vacuum extractor as an alternative to forceps. In May 1965 the clinic was incorporated with the Securities and Exchange Commission thus its corporate name: Delgado Clinic, Inc. Late 60's
Drs. Mary Rose Delgado and Rainerio Abad Dr. Delgado's daughter, Dr. Mary Rose Delgado Abad (who was her father's Clinic Assistant for four (4) years) and her husband, Dr. Rainerio S. Abad (with a fellowship Gynecologic Oncology in New York ) beefed-up the Clinic's strength. Dr. Mary Rose Delgado Abad was installed as Asst. Medical Director and Asst. Administrator while Dr. Rainerio S. Abad has set-up the Pelvic Cancer Detection Clinic. 1970 The clinic continued to grow and was expanded to a 60 bed medical facility. The patient/client profile changed from the underprivileged to the more affluent patients. August 1, 1979 - 1981 The Clinic was leased to a group of doctors who converted and managed it into a Genereal Hospital. The lease arrangement was shortlived due to poor management and internal disputes. Dr. Delgado passed away on July 13, 1981. 1982 The name of the Hospital was changed back to Delgado Clinic, signifying the return of its management and control to the Delgado family. Mrs. Carmen B. Delgado became the Chairperson of the Board and the President. Dr. Rainerio S. Abad was appointed Medical Director and Dr. Mary Rose D. Abad assumed the positions of Administrator and Assistant Medical Director. 1983 Mrs. Carmen Delgado passed away in February 1983. The Board of Directors was reorganized with Dr. Mary Rose D. Abad as President, Ma. Violeta D. Cojuangco as Executive Vice - President / Treasurer, Margarita D. Guingona as Secretary, Stella D. Rufino as Assistant Treasurer and Enrigue Delgado and Dr. Rainerio S. Abad as Directors. |
